Eric Luther Scott
June 19, 1957 – January 6, 2024
“Now go out and make it a great day!”
Eric L. Scott was born on June 19, 1957, in Washington, DC, to Melvin McCabe Scott, Jr., and Astrid Karlsen Scott. He spent his childhood in New England, alongside his older sister, Sue, and younger brother, John, living in Virginia and Massachusetts. Eric was renowned for his steadfast work ethic, his profound devotion to his family and community, and a witty sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
While attending Rick’s College (now BYU-Idaho), Eric met Sherri Christensen, who would become his beloved wife. They married in 1979 in Oakland, California, and embarked on a life journey together that spanned 44 years, raising three children—Paul, Katie, and Ryan.
Eric’s professional journey in the financial industry began in 1983 as an insurance agent with Beneficial Life. This experience, while enriching, led him to realize that a more holistic approach was needed to truly serve his clients. This insight paved the way for the foundation of Eric Scott Financial, a company built on the principles of comprehensive planning, ongoing client communication, and the power of storytelling. Throughout his 40 years in the financial industry, Eric’s expertise and dedication were widely recognized, earning him recognition as a qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table and Retirement Advisor Magazine’s Advisor of the Year in 2015.
In 2023, Eric faced his most challenging battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Despite this diagnosis, he continued to serve his clients and maintain a positive outlook. His resilience during this time was a testament to his character. As he prepared for the future, Eric, alongside his daughter and fellow advisor Katie Prosser, initiated the rebranding of the company to The Scott-Prosser Financial Group, ensuring a seamless transition and the continuation of his legacy.
Eric passed away on January 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and excellence. He is survived by his wife, Sherri, children, Paul, Katie, and Ryan, son-in-law, Mike, and grandchildren, Lexi, Calvin, Oriana, and Addi.
Eric’s vision for The Scott-Prosser Financial Group was rooted in the belief that financial planning isn’t just about the numbers, but about creating stories of peace of mind for every client. He aspired for his team to continue evolving, embracing new challenges and opportunities with the same integrity, client-focused service, and innovative thinking he championed. Under Katie’s leadership, The Scott-Prosser Financial Group is committed to honoring Eric’s legacy by upholding these values and advancing his mission to empower clients to achieve their financial dreams. Eric’s spirit of generosity, excellence, and positivity will forever remain the cornerstone of our company, guiding us forward and inspiring us to “go out and make it a great day.”
